BRIEF AND INSPIRATIONS SEA & FASHION
The Creative Genesis
To mark the opening of the Hotel Nolinski Venezia, a place that combines history and contemporary transformation, a fusion of French chic and Italian elegance, we were commissioned to create a bespoke entertainment program on the theme of haute-couture and the sea.
In this multi-influenced spirit, RêvARTe has imagined three captivating tableaux, set in different areas of the hotel to highlight its beauty. The haute-couture-like silhouettes, inspired by the graphic lines of Pierre Cardin, the shimmering reflections of water and the texture of shells (01), the dreamy ornamentation of Schiaparelli like underwater treasures (02), and the futuristic fluidity of Iris Van Herpen blended with the movements and colors of water (03), evoke the sea and the beauty of Nolinski Venezia in all its forms.
FROM THE IDEA TO REALITY
Designing “Graphic Shell”
After completing the mood board, the next step is consolidating all elements into a mock-up, a comprehensive reference for everyone involved. In crafting the Graphic Shell tableau, our goal was to immediately immerse guests in a couture-inspired realm.
Drawing from Pierre Cardin’s iconic couture style and his subtle ties to Venice, our costumes echo his confident, geometric lines to depict the graphic beauty of nature. Picture shimmering materials evoking sunlight dancing on water.
Each silhouette draws inspiration from the retro-futuristic flair of the 1960s, blending sequins and volume to offer a psychedelic, stylized glimpse into the aquatic world.
Savoir-faire
The next step is to find materials, create patterns, make prototypes and do fittings.
For this tableau, we chose a sequined fabric with iridescent reflections to recall the nuances of seashells and the cold shimmer of sunlight on water. We also used special sewing and welding techniques to create geometric shapes in the costumes.
Designing “Graphic Shell”
For this second tableau, Aqua Coliseum, we dove deep into the aquatic theme, capturing the essence of cascading water in a mesmerizing display of fabric.
Employing the Worbla technique, we preserved the fluid motion of water, infusing its turquoise hues into the costume with delicate strokes of glass paint.
We selected materials like crin, organza, plastic, and rhinestones to replicate the natural flow of water, ensuring a lifelike representation in every detail.
Designing the look Sea & Fashion from head to toe
Here's the first design, which inspired the other two silhouettes: a mix of fluid and hard materials, all in transparent shades of blue.
For these artists, we wanted to achieve a wet effect, so we worked with our hair and make-up team to create looks reminiscent of the tableau's aquatic theme, through luminous textures and a soft, transparent look.
Imagining Treasure Girls
Inspired by the lobby with its rich velvets, swirling columns and golden accents, we imagined the Treasure Hall tableau, with artists dressed in costumes reflecting the richness of the place.
Elsa Schiaparelli is the symbol of the Franco-Italian alliance in haute couture and the queen of art in fashion. So it's only natural that her fantasy inspired these costumes.
To tie in with the theme of the sea, we wanted to create a marriage between this initial inspiration and the imagery of underwater treasures. Like a concentration of jewels and lost gold, we created a work of ornamentation on the bodies of these contemporary mermaids.
The making of Opulence
Many hours were needed to select, create and assemble over a thousand jewels, pearls and chains on the various elements of these costumes to create a strong visual effect, as if the treasure were an integral part of the performance.
In keeping with the theme of treasure, we used rhinestones and gold-tone materials to create jewel-like make-up looks.
SHOWTIME!
Finally, after several weeks of preparation, our teams traveled to the glittering canals of Venice, where we discovered the magic of the Italian opus of the Nolinski.
There, we worked with our beauty teams to create hair and make-up looks specially designed to match each tableau, before dazzling guests throughout the evening with the presence and performances of our elegant dancers.
